Maha Samprokshanam would be celebrated at the fabulous Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Thirukoyil (temple) in Kappur on 12.9.22. The renowned temple is situated, adjacent to Villupuram district in Tamil Nadu. It is important to bear in mind that on the banks of the Thenpennai River, are Divya Kshetrams (Holy temples) of Thirukovalur, Padhur and Parikal. The temple is the centre of attraction on the banks, which is situated about ten kms from the Villupuram Highway, where the significance of the calm and quiet village of ‘Kappur’ is amply evident. It is worthwhile to note that for several centuries, the residents of Kappur have been worshipping at “Sri Lakshmi Narayanan Thirukovil” with renewed vigour and never-ending enthusiasm.
The well-known temple is one among 108 Divya Desams in Tamil Nadu and its significance is attributed to Lord Narayana taking the initiative to protect and bless his disciples and worshippers. The age-old temple was built approximately 800 years ago and it was appreciated by three musketeers – Peyalwar, Poigai Alwar and Boodathalwar, besides Thirumangai Azhwar. They also sung several songs, hailing the glorious achievements and noble feat of the revered Perumal. About 115 years ago, as desired by the then Azhagiyasingar, Jeernottharanana Ashtapandana Maha Samprokshanam was conducted. For instance, every year, utsavam processions used to be taken around seven streets of the village surrounding the temple.
However, the regular activities in the temple could not be held for some time due to circumstances beyond control. Moreover, it was in a dilapidated condition. Undaunted by the reverse, the late shri Govindarajan, who was instrumental and a key architect in restructuring and fine-tuning the temple with utmost perfection with his intrinsic ability and uncanny anticipation, besides his valiant efforts, ensured that Maha Samprokshanam was held on the 14th of Aani month, that is on 28.6.2006, marking the Avvyaa year, with aplomb. Hence, it has been decided to perform Punarsamprokshanam after 12 years with the blessings of Ahobila Mutt’s revered 46th seer, Azhagiyasingar Sriman Sadagopa shri Ranganatha Yathindira Mahadesikan on the occasion of subagrithu year on the 27th Avani month on 12.9.2022. Maha Samprokshanam will take place on the same day in between 6.30 am to 7.30 am, considered to be the auspicious occasion, marking Utthirattathi star in kanya lagnam. In the evening Thirukalyana Utsam would begin at 5.00 pm and Lord Perumal would be carried around the streets in a huge procession.
The temple stands on eight grounds of land, which portrays the almighty Sri Lakshmi Narayanan in the posture with Thayar (the goddess) seated on his lap with utmost pride. It is indeed a blessing-in-disguise for the devotees, as they are also getting a god-sent opportunity to offer worship of Utsavarmurthy, Sri Varadarajan with Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi Thayars as consorts), apart from, Sri Chakrathazhwar, Sri Vedanta Desikar, Sri Garudazhwar, Sri Anjaneyar, and Sri Adhivan Sadagopan. For further attention of the devotees, during 2012, a separate sannidhi was constructed for Sri Lakshmi Narasimhan, Moolavar and Utsavar and were consecrated.
The devotees would also be immensely pleased to note that Samprokshanam for Andal would be performed during the course of time. It is pertinent to note that Mangalasasanam was performed by 42nd, 43rd and 45th jeers of Sri Ahobila Mutt with their gracious presence to Perumal with utmost distinction. Bearing the ensuing Maha Samprokshanam in mind and with the temple in need of funds badly, the devotees are fervently requested to donate either cash or kind for this divine cause to the maximum extent possible at the following address.
