Any day is equally special on Tirumala, the most sacred place in the universe where Lord Srimannarayana Himself is blessing us all as Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy. We are all blessed to have Purushottama so near to us. The moment you think of Tirumala, waves of divine bliss sweep across our body. You get a divine visual of every place you visited on Tirumala during your last trip. Such is the magnificent pull of the Supreme Lord, and the divine attraction of Parabrahma murthi.
As I wrote above, the Supreme Lord glows with tejus of million Suns every day and glows with ultimate beauty. But on certain days, like Brahmotsavams,Teppotsavam etc. the divine power is more easily felt by ordinary mortals like us. Lord Srinivasa glows with the most charming beauty and attraction on Thursdays. Thursdays have been very special since ages in Tirumala temple. Tiruppavada seva is performed on Thursday morning. In this seva Pulihora is offered to the Supreme Lord, spreading it in front of Him in the mandapam in the direct eye view of Sri Swamy varu. The offering is done in a very special manner. It is believed that in the earlier days animal sacrifice was taking place on Thursdays to please the Supreme Sakthi. In the later times, the practice is discontinued and in its place a lot of rice is poured in front of the Supreme Lord as Santhi for the Supreme Sakthi.
Lord Srinivasa’s Tirunamam is thinned on Thursday and Sri Swamy varu is adorned with lesser ornaments, to prepare for the next day (Friday’s) Abhishekam. Those who go for darshan on Thursdays can have a wonderful seva of Sri Swamy varu, with the Lord’s face and magnificent eyes clearly seen. It is a lifetime divine darshan for devotees. With Namam thinned, Sri Swamy blesses us all with the most beautiful smile, the smile that is the Supreme Saviour for all of us and for the universe. Since ornaments are also lessened, you can see the Lord’s hands very clearly. What else brings us more joy? What else brings us the ultimate bliss than the Swamy’s magnificent darshan?
As the Swamy’s eyes are clearly visible on Thursdays, there is a belief among the devotees that the Lord sees everything that is happening on Tirumala hills (really silly, is He not seeing everything, every creature, everywhere, every second!). Because of this belief, traders on Tirumala do not deceive the devotees on Thursdays. They fear the Swamy looks at them ferociously if they try to deceive a devotee on Thursdays. It is said that once a temple official stole some ornaments and while stepping out of the Mahadwaram, he collapsed instantly. This happened on a Thursday. So all shopkeepers in Tirumala will be more generous to the devotees who shop on that day.
In the olden days many sadhus used to stay at matts on Tirumala hills. They used to sing Bhajans explaining the glory of Lord Srinivasa. Unfortunately we lost all those Bhajans. One such Sadhu used to sing a beautiful keerthan praising the beauty of Lord Srinivasa on Thursdays. He says “Oh Swamy! Your hands look like thick black clouds encompassing the whole universe with stunning beauty. Your eyes are so beautiful drawing all creatures in this universe to you. Your feet are so divine which relieve us all from our sins. You are so beautiful on this Thursday that we cannot use the word beautiful to anything else from now onwards, ” thus goes the sadhu’s keerthan praising Lord Srinivasa’s mesmerizing beauty on Thursdays.
How blessed are we to have divine darshan on a Thursday! Our sins from several thousands of births have simply vanished instantly with your darshan on Thursday. You are the most merciful. You are the supreme saviour. We offer our sincere prayers to you dear Swamy. Please bless us all. Please save this universe from these most difficult times. We are sure Swamy that You will save us soon, after all we are all Your children. The whole creation is part of You. You are the creation … from anda to brahmanda.
