August 7 – Maasa Shivaratri
Shivaratri is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Shiva. Each month, Chaturdashi Tithi during Krishna Paksha is known as Masa Shivaratri. On this day devotees observe fast, worship Shiva Linga and recite slokas. They will be awake during the night, hearing discourses and meditating on Lord Shiva. Unmarried women observe fast to get married.
August 6 – Pradosham
Pradosham comes twice a month and is observed on the 13th day of every fortnight. The day is famous for the worship of Lord Shiva. On this day devotees observe Pradosha Vratam by fasting and performing Poojas. On Pradosham day, Srivaishnavites worship Lord Narasimha, by performing Abhishekam, offering pujas and offering Panakam as Naivedyam.
August 7 – Srivilliputhur Thiruvadipooram Pancha Garuda Sevai
One of the most prominent events during the Thiruvadipoora Utsavam at Srivilliputhur is the Pancha Garuda Sevai. Grand procession (purappadu) will take place for Sri Andal and Periyazhwar on Anna (Hamsa) Vaahanam while Sri Rangamannar, Sri Periyaperumal, Sri Srinivasa Perumal, Sri Sundararaja Perumal and Sri Thiruthankal Appan will give darshanam on Garuda Vaahanam.
